In a live challenge, you and your opponent play the same word game at the same time.

How do you play?

On the Challenges page, choose "Play live", or tap "Challenge live" on a game's page. Choose the game and your opponent.
Your opponent receives an invitation. If they don't accept it within 60 seconds, you can turn the same game into a "Play later" challenge.
When you both press "I am ready", the game starts after a 3-2-1 countdown.
Each question opens for both of you at the same time, and you both have the same amount of time. A question you don't answer in time counts as blank.
Whoever gets the most answers right wins. If you have the same number of correct answers, whoever answered in less time wins.

Question times depend on the game: Word Quiz 15 s, Fill in the Blank and Listen and Type 20 s, Sentence Building 30 s. In Word Matching (45 s) and Memory Cards (60 s), the whole board is a single question.

You can't see your opponent's answers, and your opponent can't see yours.

Daily allowance

You can play each game live 10 times a day. An attempt is used only when the game actually starts; invitations that are declined, expire or end before the game starts don't use one. The day resets at midnight Netherlands time. You can see how many you have left in the invitation window ("Today 7/10").

If you leave the game

If you leave the game or your connection drops, the game pauses. Reloading the page doesn't stop the game.
Your opponent can wait for you for 2 minutes. If you come back, after a short countdown you continue from the question where you left off, with the time you had left.
You can come back at most 2 times in a game; if you leave a third time, the game ends right away.

Forfeit

If you don't come back, if the waiting time runs out, or if your opponent chooses "End the game" instead of waiting, you lose by forfeit; your opponent wins regardless of the score. The "Forfeit" label appears on the result screen.

The player who loses by forfeit gets no XP.
The player who wins by forfeit gets XP only if at least 3 questions were completed (in matching games, the number of pairs they found counts).
If you both leave at the same time, the game closes without a result; no one gets XP.

Who can play live?

To play live, you need to be signed in and have a verified email address; guests can't play live. Creating an invitation requires a membership. You can only be in one live room at a time.
