What is the level test?

The level test is free; all you need is an account. It takes 10–15 minutes. If you are preparing for the exam, it estimates how ready you are for each section; if you are learning Dutch, it estimates your general level. At the end it gives you a study plan and suggests the package that fits what you need.

First, your goal

The test starts with a few short questions:

I am preparing for the Dutch civic integration exam: you choose which sections you have passed, which you failed or have not taken yet, and roughly when your exam is.
I want to learn Dutch to live in the Netherlands: you choose how much Dutch you already know.

Which questions do you get?

If you are preparing for the exam, only the sections you have not passed yet are measured:

KNS: about 8 questions, each with a photo.
Lezen: up to 3 short texts, with 2 questions each.
Spreken: 2 spoken answers of at most 30 seconds: one question to answer and one sentence to finish. While you speak, what you say appears on the screen as text; when you finish recording, you can listen to it and record again. You need a microphone for this; you can skip this part if you want. If you are learning Dutch to live in the Netherlands, you get about 12 general A0–A2 questions: word meanings in your own language, grammar, short texts and listening.

The test adapts to you: the questions get harder or easier depending on your answers. During the test you are not shown whether an answer is right or wrong.

How is it evaluated?

The site scores multiple-choice answers itself.
Your spoken answers are turned into text and evaluated by AI, in the same way as the feedback in the Spreken practice.
From the calculated results, AI writes you a short, personal coach note.
If the AI evaluation is not available at that moment, the speaking part is skipped and you still get your result. The package suggestion then relies on what you told us about your exam sections.
Your recordings are deleted after the evaluation; only the text of your answer is kept. In the What you said section of the result page you see the text of each spoken answer that was used for the evaluation.

What do you see in your result?

Your estimated level for each section. For the exam sections: Beginner (A0), Developing (close to A1), Close to exam level (A1) or Looks ready (A1+). For general Dutch: A0, A1 or A2.
Your strengths and weak points.
A weekly study plan, with links straight to the right pages.
The package that fits you: it covers only what you still need, never more. For example, if only Spreken is left, it suggests Spreken only. For the length, the 2-month package is usually suggested: it is the most chosen length, gives you enough time for steady practice until your exam and costs less than buying the 1-month package twice. If your exam is less than a month away, the 1-month package is suggested; if it is more than 3 months away and your level is still low, the 3-month package. Among the alternatives you first see the other lengths of the same package, then broader packages. When you click an alternative, you first see the package details; with the Buy via WhatsApp button you send the order. The free option is listed too. This result is an estimate; it is not an official exam result.

Taking the test again

You can take the test again 7 days after your last one. Your earlier results are kept, and your progress is shown in a chart.

Invitation and reminder

After your free trial ends, you get one invitation to the level test: a notification in the bell, a push notification if you allowed them, and an email. A few days later at most one more reminder may follow. You can turn these off with the Level test options on the Settings → Notifications page; you can also turn off the emails with the link in the email, without signing in.
