The first word of the question tells you what to look for in the text. If you know these words, you find the answer much faster.

Wie? (who?): look for a person. A name, or a person like vader, buurvrouw, de dokter.
Wat? (what?): a thing or an action. Wat doet hij? asks for an action: werken, zwemmen.
Waar? (where?): look for a place: in de keuken, op school, in Utrecht. Waar naartoe? = where to?
Wanneer? (when?): look for a day, month or time: op maandag, in de zomer, morgen.
Hoe laat? (what time?): look for a clock time: om 8 uur, half negen (8:30), kwart over drie (3:15).
Hoeveel? (how many? how much?): look for a number or a price: drie kinderen, €1,50.
Hoe lang? (how long?): work out the difference between two times: 10:00 - 12:00 = 2 hours.
Waarom? (why?): look for a reason. The text often has omdat (because) or want (because).
Hoe? (how?): look for a way or a state: met de auto, met de fiets, ziek.
Welk / welke? (which?): choose one of the options; often about a list or a table.

Read the question word and decide what type of answer you need.
Look at the options: they are all the same type (four times, four names).
Find that type of information in the text, then use the other words of the question (op zondag, de vader) to pick the right one.

Example: Hoe laat begint school? You need a time, and begint (starts) matters. The text may have several times; choose the one next to begint.
